Yes, Al, as I mentioned, brasseries were originally born as brewhouse restaurants in Alsace that served simple meals, but the Larousse definition of a bistro notwithstanding, current Parisian usage almost never associates them with selling wine anymore, unless it's to accompany a meal consumed on the premises, and bistro cooking is all about les plats mijotés (petit salé aux lentilles, boeuf bourguignon, blanquette de veau) as opposed to the more expedient menus served by brasseries.

Bistrot or Brasserie
My old (1975) LaRousse dictionary says that a “bistrot” is a place that sells wine (“marchand du vin”
) while a “brasserie” is a place that serves beer (of course) and simple meals (“on sert de la bière et des repas sommaires”).
