Great Westport memories for us too, Alec. There was a Manero's in Greenwich also, owned by a cousin, where my Mother took me for lunch to celebrate that my post graduate job was joined Congressman Lowell Weicker's staff in DC in June of 1969. Same steaks, gorgonzola dressing on the sales, same garlic bread. There was a Clam Box in Greenwich too, where we had our high school prom "afterglow". Next time you're in town, try the latest incarnation of the restaurant at the Westport Country Playhouse, now a locavore foodie spot called the Dressing Room. We will seek out Ola. Maialino (or anything Danny Meyer does) was already on the list.

Maneros will always be an iconic address for me. And I'd forgotten, but you're right, the steaks and delicious onion rings were served in a dining room wreathed in smoke--Dad, Parliaments; Mom, Tareytons; Grandmother, Winston 100s. Best, Alec

Oh how I loved Maneros. I lived in Westport in the '50s and it was the perfect Italian restaurant to me. The waiters were so nice to kids! My mother had manicotti every single time. :I also remember everyone in the restaurant smoking cigarettes.

Hi Carol,

Yikes, it was Chez Pierre, and those hot dogs at Rawley's were heavenly, as were pies from Oronoque bake shop. Don't miss the Clam Box, but West Lake, even through the filter of kind memory, was a really excellent restaurant and much better than the Golden Door in the Compo Shopping Center.

Ditto. Ditto, ditto. I grew up in Fairfield and I had not thought about West Lake or the Clam Box in a zillion years. Let alone Manero's. And how about... wasn't it Chez Pierre On Main Street This would be maybe mid-70s. And how about those hot dogs at Rawley's in Fairfield?lt;/p>
